6: We're standing on it
The Matria Rd site proves to be frustrating. Even with GPS coordinates and obvious features, the entrance remains covered. No point trying to enter something that could well be 2 metres away, GPS is not that accurate. Or we could be standing on top of it! Remember that the two contractors that found it were young Maori men who reported it to their boss, who never saw it because the authorities covered it up and changed the road direction.
But what exists under the trees nearby is unlike anything around about. It is also noted as an archaeological site. (By the way, this isn't the burial site). But the whole hill area is strange and it definitely holds some mysteries. There's also something nearer one of the streams.
Maurice Tyson knew about the petroglyph rocks at Matria Rd. But it was news to him they were taken away to the Tūrangawaewae Marae. I found what could quite possible be a pattern in one rock and similar to the logo on the front page of this website (which is a sketch from one of the Matira rocks at Tūrangawaewae Marae) with the curved pieces at the end of straight lines. There are four of them. But I can't be sure if they are natural or not until we go back and do the test. There are straight lines and curves as you can see below. I'll take a better photo next time.
