Sidestep: Grand Canyon Giants

Grand Canyon Giants? Sorry for the bait but there are none, but many refer to this story as if there were, which is just as fascinating... To be sure, many that believe in this giant cave system hiding egyptian artifacts and mummies are complete wackos believing in portals to other universes and that kind of stuff.

I've read a bit about these stories over the years and always cry 'bullshit' when I read what they described inside. Here's a good link to some of the information - https://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-americas/grand-canyon-forbidden-zone-0014481

Now aside from the contents of the caves, which I think are completely fabricated nonsense... kilometers of tunnels, no air source, no light source, no water source (getting enlightened now?)... I began to look at the possibility of the cave existing and where would it be. We all know its on the northern side of the Colorado River between Crystal Creek and Trinity Creek. Some say the names of the peaks are the clue with such names as the Tower of Ra, the temple of Osiris and Shiva temple and the Isis temple. Is that a clue? Well those names are European names given after the so called cave discovery and might be linked to the story. But no native names gives us any clue.

Ok, what about access. The cliff face is seen from the river as a stain on the wall drew Kinkaid's attention but the entrance cant be seen until the climb is made. The entrance is just above a shelf, below a bluff, close to the river, not the top of the canyon. How did the supposed inhabitants hunt...? It's huge climb. Why did they dig such long tunnels there? How did they farm, there's almost no flat land, how did they fish, the water access is tiny?

What about those who discovered and inspected the cave? Of GE Kincaid there is no record - at all! But Professor David Starr Jordan was indeed closely affiliated with the Smithsonian institution for thirty years, spanning the 1880s until 1910, even though the Smithsonian denied it. Why would they do that?

Then there's the newspaper reports which abruptly ended. No follow on story, no apology for a mistake, no refuting the find. Conspiracy theorists think this is a clue, and it might be.

As you go through this the information, or lack of it, it has you swinging back and forth between rubbish and possibility. But not the contents of the cave - I think that is all far fetched. But lets' continue....

The Army were supposed to have emptied the cave using 58 trucks. Yet there are no paths, no roads, and no tracks to support such a claim. Now it is true that this area is a so called 'forbidden zone' and there are no tracks within it either adding to the conspiracists claims. Then there is the 'no fly zone'. Why is there one? Apparently in 1956, two airliners collided over the very spot and that adds to the conspiracy talk of high energy spikes coming from the area. Yet modern equipment does not pick up any energy spikes at all. The native's do say it is an area of high energy, and the natives mean spiritual energy and in many places in the world that feeling exist simply due to the rugged beauty of nature upon the emotions. One guy, Doug, talks of getting lost in this area (wasn't supposed to be there) and there are no trails there... a hint? Yes - his story is a total fabrication.

Just above the area in question is something called Trap Tank. What the hell is a trap tank? It's a reservoir. Mmm, then maybe that was an old water source they once used?. There is none other like it within miles. There also appears to be a series of very small structures leading from the hill above, past the trap and down over the cliff. Very hard to make out but they are in a straight line? No one has reported this before that I know of. So, maybe this is supportive of a cave?

They say there is a city underneath- an Egyption city. Could there be an underground Egyptian city in the Grand Canyon? No. Its all rubbish. Read the following,...

According to the story related to the Gazette by Mr. Kinkaid, the archeologists of the Smithsonian Institute, which is financing the expeditions, have made discoveries that almost conclusively prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern, hewn in solid rock by human hands, was of oriental origin, possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses I. Nearly a mile underground, about 1480 feet below the surface, the long main passage has been delved into, to find another mammoth chamber from which radiates scores of passageways, like the spokes of a wheel. Several hundred rooms have been discovered, reached by passageways running from the main passage, one of them having been explored for 854 feet and another 634 feet. The recent finds include articles that have never been known as native to this country, and doubtless, they had their origin in the orient. War weapons, copper instruments, sharp-edged and hard as steel, indicate the high state of civilization reached by these strange people.

“First, I would impress that the cavern is nearly inaccessible. The entrance is 1,486 feet down the sheer canyon wall. It is located on government land and no visitor will be allowed there under penalty of trespass. The scientists wish to work unmolested, without fear of archeological discoveries being disturbed by curio or relic hunters. A trip there would be fruitless, and the visitor would be sent on his way. The story of how I found the cavern has been related, but in a paragraph: I was journeying down the Colorado River in a boat, alone, looking for mineral. Some forty-two miles up the river from the El Tovar Crystal canyon, I saw on the east wall, stains in the sedimentary formation about 2,000 feet above the riverbed. There was no trail to this point, but I finally reached it with great difficulty. Above a shelf that hid it from view from the river, was the mouth of the cave. There are steps leading from this entrance some thirty yards to what was, at the time the cavern was inhabited, the level of the river. When I saw the chisel marks on the wall inside the entrance, I became interested, securing my gun, and went in. During that trip, I went back several hundred feet along the main passage till I came to the crypt in which I discovered the mummies.

“The main passageway is about 12 feet wide, narrowing to nine feet toward the farther end. About 57 feet from the entrance, the first side-passages branch off to the right and left, along which, on both sides, are a number of rooms about the size of ordinary living rooms of today, though some are 30 by 40 feet square. These are entered by oval-shaped doors and are ventilated by round air spaces through the walls into the passages. The walls are about three feet six inches in thickness. Then there is the shrine and the crypt... Upwards of 50,000 people could have lived in the caverns comfortably.

They found Egyptian items and then a Buddha style statue.

Can you believe this crap? Some do. So now, ignoring the contents of the cave, the mummies, the armour, the articles of copper and gold, let's look at the cave system which holds these supposed treasures. All the system is apparently hand carved according to the reports (!). The amount of spoil needed to be removed to create these tunnels would be enormous and the fill and evidence of it would be clearly visible unless carefully dumped into the colorado river. They say 50,000 people could have lived inside this huge complex of caverns....... and there air, sewerage, water and light comes from where? There is not a single sign of habitation outside at all according the the articles. Not even a single petroglyph. No petroglyphs by the Hopi suggest anything outside of normal traditions in the canyon.

Then after all this, the reports by some conspiracy theorist websites are that they housed giants. Not one single early report of this cave ever says that. Stature is never mentioned that we can find. Just this fantastic story of huge man made tunnels in an inhospitable area, with no light, ventilation or water... and a mixture of Buddhist and Egyptian mythology. The mystery is so fantastic I actually wish it were true.

Then there are some websites showing a large cave entrance (above) just up from the river, clearly visible from the river and they claim this is Kinkaids cave. It is not. Those people are just weirdos trying to gain readership. This is a dead end just a few metres in and the story clearly says one cannot see it from the river and exists above a shelf and hidden from view. Some websites show the named peaks (tower of Ra etc) that supposedly align with the same stars that the pyramids of Giza align with, the constellations of Orion and Pleiades. Once again, that's just bullshit and there are two reasons for this. If you can't figure out both reasons yourself why this is bullshit, you will be sucked in by anything and everything.

Conclusion in our opinion is that this, like the Burrows and Brewers caves ( https://tangatawhenua16.wixsite.com/the-first-ones-blog/single-post/sidestep-special-burrows-cave-illinois-vs-brewers-cave-utah ) are a complete fabrication. But boy, it would make a great movie and someone should do that as it would be great entertainment.
